Job Description:

Description

Rivero's Core Team is building a greenfield, next-generation payment processing system. Our vision is to empower clients to design and run their own workflows in a payments-oriented environment with bring-your-own-code features.

In order to accomplish this, we use a Nix-powered monorepo containing a Rust backend, Effectful TypeScript frontend leveraging React and a constraint solving compiler built using Haskell. We are looking for someone who can bring relevant domain expertise and familiarity with at least some of these tools to the table in order to help us round off our engineering team.

In our daily work, we heavily rely on agentic AI to help us push features faster, review code more thoroughly and optimize the human focus time we have so that we do as little trivial coding as possible. We don't have a token leaderboard, nor do we expect you to be an LLM hype squad member, but you must be comfortable with this approach to product development.

Requirements

Must have:

  • Solid experience with programming languages featuring strong static type systems.
  • Experience in designing software with a pragmatic, hands-on mindset, balancing speed and solid foundations.
  • Strong sense of ownership and communication, thriving in small, highly collaborative teams.

Additionally, at least one of:

  • Strong background in building and operating high-performance systems (low latency, high concurrency, fault tolerance).
  • Experience in the payments domain (in particular transaction processing, ledgering or similar domains).

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Rust for high-performance systems.
  • Experience with Haskell for compiler design, static analysis, or DSLs.
  • Experience with TypeScript and React for frontend development
  • Experience with Nix.
  • Familiarity with WebAssembly (Wasm) runtimes and ecosystems (e.g. WASI, WIT, Wasmtime).
  • Prior experience working in a startup environment with rapid iteration.

Responsibilities

You will join Rivero's Core Team. In this role, you will:

  • Engineer for scale by building high-performance systems that guarantee close to zero downtime
  • Develop secure runtimes to safely run third-party code in Wasm sandboxes
  • Prototype and iterate rapidly, turning new concepts into robust, production-ready software

You'll work in a tight-knit, collaborative team in Zurich, with the autonomy to make meaningful technical decisions and the chance to shape the product from an early stage in its development.

Please note: The role is hybrid on-site; we particularly value the collaboration which comes from working together at the office, so in a normal week we expect three of the five working days to be spent working at the office.
